In certain regions, such as China, Iran, Russia, and so many more, the internet is wielded as a tool against its own citizens. The CCP manipulates online platforms to portray China favourably while censoring anything deemed 'anti-China.' The formidable Chinese firewall confines citizens to a government-controlled internet, masquerading as a safeguard for their well-being.
Should the internet fall under stringent regulation, like it already has in so many places, it would significantly shape global ideologies and beliefs. Integral to democracy are the principles of freedom of speech, expression, and belief. We must not permit corporations or governments to interfere with these foundational freedoms.
